Still Rumor-Mongering After All These Years...

Cloud seeding worked really well last year… although it was an epic snow year anyway. Experts say that snow increased by 30% due to seeding. Maybe, but we could sure use some seeding help this year… except there’s no clouds. Predictions of another big La Niña year have failed to materialize and through early January it’s just cold, dry and windy.

First it was moose, now it’s lynx… before you know it, we’ll be overrun with feisty little cats. Lynx are being spotted more frequently in the Vail Pass and around Summit County. Kittens have been born in Summit County, too. If we’re not careful, soon we’ll have a cohesive ecosystem again in Summit County. What next? Grizzleys?

Judging from the throngs of happy Christmas visitors... no one seems too worried about being attacked by rogue lynx or the fact that we need a lot more snow. The mood is more positive than for the past few years. Could America be coming out of the basement? It’s about time.

fter the huge success of the Colorado Pro Challenge bicycle race last summer... it would have been terrible if Summit County wasn’t chosen to host a stage again this summer. But we got it. Racers will start in Breckenridge and ride up Fremont Pass (Climax) to Leadville and beyond. Lots of towns that weren’t too excited before last summer have now decided that 150,000 extra visitors is a good thing. The bidding to host was fierce this time.

And even though snow is slim this year... the skiing is pretty fair. These guys are getting a lot better at making good snow, not just a slab. So, skiing man-made in bright sun in January… it could be worse.
